Ending Australia’s senseless shark culls
Sea Shepherd is working with the community to promote better solutions to preventing shark bite incidents
In early 2014, the Western Australian Government installed drum lines off the WA coastline to catch and kill large sharks. This misguided attempt to reduce the danger to people from shark bites has attracted international condemnation.
Sea Shepherd is throwing its support behind the community, providing a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) along with crew members to monitor, document, and expose the flawed policy.
We are now undertaking a similar programme within New South Wales and Queensland to pressure those governments to stop their shark culls. The public must be informed about the ineffectiveness of the current program, the threat these actions pose to all marine life, and some alternatives that don’t kill our precious marine life.
