Marine Debris Campaign Data Collection
At every Sea Shepherd Australia clean-up, our dedicated volunteers follow a consistent methodology to sort and count collected items. This data is then uploaded to the Sea Shepherd Australia National Database.
This systematic approach allows us to identify the types and quantities of debris found along our shorelines. We then analyse this information to collaborate with local councils, businesses, and other organisations and stakeholders to stem the tide and address plastic pollution at its source before it reaches the environment and the ocean.
Our Marine Debris teams across Australia host monthly community clean-ups and record valuable data. Since 2016, volunteers have removed over 4.8 million pieces of trash from local beaches and more than 130 tonnes from remote clean-up locations.
If you would like access to our marine debris data, please email us at marinedebrisadmin@seashepherd.org.au with your requests and the specific dataset you are seeking.
