Join the Fight Against the World's #1 Litter This September

Thursday, 28 Aug, 2025

Join us on Saturday 20 September for the 2025 Big Butt Hunt to help fight against the world's number one most littered item - cigarette butts.

Cigarette butts are the most polluted item globally and right here in Australia, and we've seen the scale of the problem first-hand. Since launching our Marine Debris Campaign in 2015, Sea Shepherd crew and community members have removed more than one million cigarette butts from the marine environment across the country.

They may be small, but they are toxic and they are everywhere - choking our ocean, poisoning wildlife, and polluting our streets and waterways.

That's why we are taking action this World Cleanup Day by teaming up with our friends at No More Butts for the 2025 Big Butt Hunt - a nationwide day of community clean-ups dedicated to removing thousands of cigarette butts from our beaches, creek beds, parks, and roads.

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet likelinded community members and help tackle a global problem on a local scale, where you can see the impact of your efforts at the end of the day.

Want to get involved? You can join one of our Sea Shepherd facilitated clean-ups below or find your nearest No More Butts hosted event here.

Happy hunting!
